Walking girl!!! August 29, 2008

Hey there, Hi there, Ho there!!! 

So, yes!!  I am walking now…can’t do a whole lot at one time and can’t do it for LONG periods of time, but I am indeed walking (still in walking cast).  It’s just too good to be true!!!  After about 14 months of hopping around on one foot, I can now walk on two!  My ankle feels pretty weak and I kind of look like an older woman when I get up to walk – kind of have to stand for a minute, then hobble for a minute before I get going more smoothly – but that’s okay.  It’s the little things that thrill me:  standing on one foot (the “bad” one now), walking around the house holding a cup (can’t do this with a walker or wheelchair), holding Lance’s hand as we walk (again, haven’t been able to do this with a walker), walk up the stairs in our house (crawled up before), being able to cook a simple meal, and so on….It’s just awesome!!!

 

OKAY!!  Now!!!  I have been working on sorting some really cute destash for my shop!!  OMG!!  I bought all this stuff a long time ago when I thought about scrapbooking.  Since I’m more of a card maker/papercrafter, I don’t need a lot of what I have!!    Thought I would offer it up to my fellow Etsians!!!  YAY!!  I should be listing this afternoon, so keep your eyes out!!

My sweet friend, Rhonda (a.k.a. thecozyloft) shared this cool site with me a while back and I played around with it a little bit, but never published anything.  Well, now I can’t say that anymore!!  LOL….I finished up a page about my hubby and me that I had been working on.  I’m really happy with it and would encourage all of you to try doing some of your own!! 

I must say that while I am a paper crafter, I have never played around with digital scrapbooking.  This is my first attempt, so if you ARE a digital scrapbooker, be nice.  LOL

Quick Update August 22, 2008

Just wanted to type up a quick word regarding some medical junk!  LOL….Mom is doing great and her recuperation has already far surpassed what the doctor predicted.    I’m so happy that she is doing so well.  She has stayed with us since Tuesday evening, and will probably stay with us for a couple more days. 

 

I went to my foot/ankle doc today, expected to rid myself of the splint and make the move to a walking boot.   I was so excited and cried happy tears when I saw my foot and leg.  They were mostly back to regular size and I could see ALL of them without bars, wires, or bandages in the way.  Unfortunately, I also briefly cried some frustrated tears because my doc decided that it was a little too soon for the boot.  So, instead, I will be in a cast for about a month!    Oh well though…In the end, a month will seem like nothing!!  I’ll post pics of the cast tomorrow (it’s PINK)!!!

Just a few more days… August 17, 2008

So I am worried about this upcoming week…  I’m still wearing this casted sock on steroids and can’t wait to (hopefully) get it off on Thursday.  Am I worried about that?  NO!!  What I am worried about is that my mom is having her tonsils taken out on Wednesday, the day before.  So, since Lance is a teacher, he will start back to work this week and it will just be my mom and me.    Again, I don’t ever mind spending time with my mom – in fact, I usually enjoy it. 

 

So what’s causing me the stress?  A few things…First, I am hobbling around on one foot here.  I can carry some things while I use my walker, but not many.  My mom will need to rest and I fear that she may feel as though as has to wait on ME.  On top of all that, my husband is frustrated because he doesn’t want me to feel like I need to be waiting on my mom and he’s upset that she won’t postpone her surgery.  He feels like I’ve been going through a trail of health problems regarding my leg and I’m finally on the downhill slope.  He wants me to focus on resting and healing – not focusing on someone else to do that.  On top of all of that, my husband has been lovingly taking care of me for a year now.  He is starting back up to work again now that school is starting back up soon and so some stress goes along with that.  He feels as though he will be working during the day while worrying about me, and then will have to come home and take care of BOTH my mom and me.  I think he’s just feeling exhausted just thinking about all of that. 

 

While I can understand all of that, there are other people at stake.  LOL….that sounded right out of an action heroes comic book or something.  Really?  My mom makes wedding cakes and grooms’ cakes.  She has two weddings in September, two weddings and my nephew’s sixth birthday in October, and then we’re into the holidays.  According to her doctor, when tonsils are taken out when you are a child, the child bounces back after a week or so.  As an adult, they can be out of work (and in bed) for up to four weeks.  If my mom doesn’t do it now, it won’t happen until next year sometime.  Since she gets strep throat quite frequently, I don’t want her to be sick all the time until next year….that would seriously suck.

 

So, anyway….that’s my dilemna.   Hubby doesn’t want it to happen right now; Mom doesn’t want to put it off; and I don’t want my mom to be sick, want hubby to worry, get myself worn out OR feel like I’m caught in the middle.

Contraption is OFFICIALLY off!!! August 13, 2008

Well, I finally got that hunk of junk off of my leg!!  LOL!  Now, it is replaced with a cast/splint!!  No worries!  This thing is only supposed to be on for 10 days.    While it is about as big as the contraption and a little heavier, it is not near as PAINFUL!!!  LOL!!  I believe that the plan after I get this thing off is to wear a walking boot while my brace is being made.  Physical therapy will follow!

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!!  I truly appreciate them, as well as the mutual excitement many of you shared with me for the countdown!!    LOL
